At the Student Academy of Musical Leaders (SAML), we are shaping the future of Drum Majoring, music education, and leadership by providing students with the tools, training, and experiences they need to excel. Our mission is to create space for the next generation of leaders through mentorship, education, and hands-on experiences that prepare them for success in the arts and beyond.
What it means to be a SAML Host School
A SAML Host School is more than a venue—it is a vital partnership. Host Schools co-host our contests, master classes, and other events, working alongside SAML to bring these experiences to life for our students. Your school will play a key role being the environment where our students thrive.
By joining SAML's Host School Program, your program and students will not only gain recognition but also contribute to a movement that fosters excellence, collaboration, and growth in our niche community. Our competitions always take place on Saturdays, while our educational events occur over the weekends. Together, we can shape the young leaders of tomorrow.
What It Takes to Host a SAML Contest
To successfully host a SAML contest, a school must provide:
Football Field – A regulation football field is required for all contests.
Restroom Access – Restroom facilities must be available for participants and attendees.
20 Chairs – Seating for SAML staff members.
Conducting Podium – A stable and safe podium for our conducting competitors to use.
Access to Power – Electrical access for event equipment.
Band Program Partnership – The event must be fully hosted in partnership with the band program, ensuring recognition by the school and district. SAML will provide liability insurance.
Optional: Concessions Stand – A food and drink stand is encouraged to enhance the event experience and provide additional fundraising opportunities for the host program.
