Grand Champion Trophy

Student Academy of Musical Leaders is proud to present the Grand Champion Trophy. Each year, this award is presented to the Student Leader who attains the top combined score in both conducting and flourishing throughout the season deeming them the “Grand Champion”. The Bernard Haverly Memorial Trophy is annually awarded to the Student Leader who attains the top combined score in both conducting and flourishing at Championships. This award was gifted by Mr. David Jenkins in 2025 in honor of his grandfather, Bernard Haverly. Bernard was a longtime supporter of the drum major arts and music performing arts. He served in our U.S Navy and fought 4 tours in the Vietnam war. Later, being honorably discharged. Individuals impacted by Bernard often remember him by his kindness, tenacity, and willingness to help others. Bernard was a crucial part in David's journey in becoming the Parade Drum Major at Chino High School. Bernard unfortunately passed away late December of 2021 after battling Alzheimer's for 10 years. The Haverly and Jenkins family is honored to present this award to the Grand Champion, as Bernards legacy will forever live on through this award and its recipients.
